An introduction to the first pillar of Islam

An introduction to the first pillar of Islam
KALIMA SHADDAHWORD OF TESTIMONY
ARABIC:
اشْهَدُ انْ لّآ اِلهَ اِلَّا اللّهُ وَحْدَه لَا شَرِيْكَ لَه، وَ اَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدً
اعَبْدُه وَرَسُولُه
ROMANIZATION:
Ašhadu al-lā ilāha illā-llāhu,wahdahu la sharikalahu,wa ašhadu anna Muḥammadun ʿabduhu wa rasūluhu.
ENGLISH:
I bear witness that none is worthy of worship but Allah, the One alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger
The Shahada is the first of the ‘Five Pillars’ of Islam.  The word shahada in Arabic means ‘testimony.’  The shahada is to testify to two things:

One becomes a Muslim by making this simple declaration.
* There is none worthy of worship but Allah Muhammad is His servant and Messenger

It must be recited by every Muslim at least once in a lifetime with a full understanding of its meaning and with an assent of the heart.  Muslims say this when they wake up in the morning, and before they go to sleep at night.  It is repeated five times in the call to prayer in every mosque.  A person who utters the shahada as their last words in this life has been promised Paradise
